1.1.09-Celebrating Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

The Church begins each new year with a celebration of the Feast of Mary the Mother of God. It is very fitting for it reminds us that because of Mary’s motherhood, we are given a whole new life and hope that only God can give.

The celebration this year began with a pre-Mass which broke the silence of the new year morning. As a symbol of inviting Mary our mother to pray with us, the statue of Our Lady was brought in procession as the hymn Mother of God was sung.

Since Christmas was just a week ago, it brought much inspiration to all as the hymn “Mary did you know” was played with aid of beautiful pictures on slides. Thereafter, rosary was prayed.

The Holy Mass was a beautiful celebration con-celebrated by Fathers Simon Yong and
O C Lim . At the end of the Mass, their new year greetings and jokes brought great cheer to all present.

Prayer cards to Mary, the queen of Apostles was blessed and distributed to all the faithful after Mass. Being year of St Paul , this is a fitting prayer for those who are spreading the good news.

Our dear Padres were also on hand after Mass to meet their flock of worshippers and exchanging New Year greetings with them.

New Year's Eve Te Deum

SFX Church tradition of holding the New Year's Eve Vigil was well attended on 31.12.08. The celebration started with the Te Deum to thank our God for all His Blessings throughout 2008, to ask for forgiveness for our short comings and also pray for the Lord's strength to carry us through the New Year 2009. A photo slide show of the monthly activities of the parish in 2008 was shown as the Choir lead the congregation in Praise and Worship. The Eucharistic celebration which followed at about 10.45pm was celebrated by our Dear Padre Rev. Fr. Simon Yong SJ, with Asst. Parish Pastor Rev. Fr. O.C. Lim SJ and Rev. Fr. Bernard Hyacinth SJ of the Jesuit Refugee Service in Bangkok, con-celebrating. Photos of the Te Deum are posted for viewing.

28.12.08-Feast of the Holy Family

28.12.08, Sunday was the Feast of the Holy Family. At the end of the Masses, our Dear Padre Rev. Fr. Simon Yong SJ invited children to come up to the front of the Altar to received special blessings. Many children came up as well as several moms and dads who carried their babies as well as younger children to received the special blessings. Photos taken at the 5.30pm Sunday Mass are posted for viewing.
